If Maroon 5 were produced by King Tubby, it might sound something like Bright Side of Life. The Santa Barbara-based Rebelution continues to perfect its brand of beach reggae with their second album. Even as they radiate the easygoing grooves of a beachside bonfire, “Bright Side of Life,” “Lazy Afternoon” and “Outta Control” are as sharply-crafted and catchy as any songs on contemporary radio. Even as the band perfects its hooks, the groove always comes first. A throbbing bass-induced rhythm and echoing guitar figure help make “Moonlight” one of the year’s sexiest love songs. Bands from Madness to No Doubt to Lily Allen have looked to reggae for inspiration, but Rebelution is close to accomplishing something that hasn’t been seen since Sublime. It’s hard to imagine two genres more diametrically opposed than Jamaican dub and white American pop music, but a song as good as “More Than Ever” proves that bridging the two worlds is an experiment that could actually result in music that has across-the-board appeal.

Great follow up to an epic debut, definitely download worthy
Rebelution's follow-up to their debut album and 2007 iTunes Editors Choice Album of the Year 'Courage to Grow' does not fail to impress. Lead singer Eric Rachmany continues his evolution as lead singer, songwriter, and lead guitarist writing 12 solid tracks, ranging from the heartfelt songs 'Lazy Afternoon', 'Moonlight', and 'More than Ever', to the fist pumping jams of 'Bump', 'Too Rude', and 'From the Window'. All in all, a solid album from one of the hottest indie bands on the California scene. 'Bright Side of Life' may be the Wake up Call to the rest of the world that Rebelution is a solid contender on the world music scene. Definitely worthy of a download, and their live energetic shows are not to be missed when in your city. With one of the most loyal fan bases around and a hunger to create positive music for the masses, expect more to come from this young California Reggae foursome.
Rebelution nails it
Once again, these guys know how to do reggae. Every song delivers a good vibe with great melodies to chill out to and great lyrics as well. If this album doesn't lift them to stardom I don't know what can. I suggest Outta Control, Bright Side of Life, and Bump, they all are chill tunes but those stand out the most by FAR. Enjoy, chillaxers.
Lacks the Variety and Innovation...
That Courage to Grow had and what made Rebelution one of the best Reggae bands out there. This Album relies too much on synths that sound the same throughout the album. The album sounds pretty uniform throughout and only has a couple of songs that really grab your attention. Rebelution takes a step back with their sophomore release and makes Courage to Grow seem like that much better of an album.
