iTunes Review
With a promising debut, Denver quartet Meese effortlessly traverse from guitar-laden indie pop (like the chiming opener “Forward Motion”) to melodic piano-based ballads (such as the cascading “Taking the World On”), to four-on-the-floor dance pop (as heard on the standout track “Next In Line”), all while retaining a distinctive sound that is unmistakably theirs. Meese’s first album oozes with the kind of endearing post-adolescent tunes that you’d expect to hear in the soundtrack to a hip romantic comedy like Juno or Knocked Up. Singer Patrick Meese inflects with a demure boyish tone somewhat similar to the range of Thomas Mars from Phoenix or Xavier Boyer of Tahiti 80, though his songs are more immediately catchy and conducive to road-trip singalongs. After winning his battle with an addiction to club drugs in the ‘90s, Patrick retained a healthy affinity to airtight rhythm-driving choruses that give many of these songs infectious, danceable beats. Even catchy guitar based songs like “Bonfire” lean on toe-tapping rhythms that grow into a pulse-pumping and begging-for-festive grooving.
Customer Reviews
Utterly Amazing.
This record shocked me. I heard it yesterday and couldn't believe how catchy and funky it was. The song "Next In Line" has a chorus that you will be hummin for days. I love this band. I cant believe I haven't heard of them before.
MEESE IS AMAZING!
This album is incredible! Meese has grown a lot over the years and this cd showcases that perfectly. All the songs are catchy yet they have deep meaning in them as well. Patrick Meese is an amazing song writer and has some of the best musicians out there to back him up. I'm so proud of these boys and I can't wait to see where they go. Like all of Meese's previous work, I know I will listen to "Broadcast" over and over again and never get tired of it.
Meese- Best Band Coming Out Of Denver, Period! Yes The Knockoff The Fray!
Meese has slowly been honing their sound, taking their sound to a new more mature level then we saw even just 2 and a half years ago. The best part of this band is how incredibly down to earth they are. I don't know a lot of artists that will just sit down after their set is done at a show and b.s. with fans and talk about anything from sports to why they don't like the McRib sandwich at McDonald's. This is a band to watch for and I'd almost guarantee at some point, a Hollywood executive is going to hear one of their songs and want it for one of their movies and/or television series and then Meese will sky rocket into the atmosphere. Keep up the good work guys, you deserve it and your fans will keep supporting you no matter what! If I have ANY critique on this album it would be check out Tell Me It's Over and then go check out their Winter Recordings song called Start Of It. Compare, see which you like better. But either way, you'll learn why Meese is so good.
