Album Review
Genius or lunacy — take your pick. But either way, give credit to Aaron Weiss and gang for another unique taste of Christian indie rock sentiment. In more of his half-shouting, stream-of-consciousness style, Weiss throws any sense of traditional song form out the door. Lyrically speaking, Brother, Sister is more cryptic and nonsensical than almost anything else in Tooth & Nail Records' catalog. It proves an arduous task to identify any faith-based themes on the disc besides a desperate plea to reconcile one's place before God. Although there is less pounding rock than on its debut album, the group continues to explore sounds that make you want to shudder and tap along simultaneously. The one theme appears to be an obsession with mischievous critters — spiders, porcupines, and wolves, to name a few. You'll either "get it" or you won't, but you definitely won't forget the eccentric sound of this oft-loved band.
Customer Reviews
ummmm...what???
Why on earth does this have NO reviews? This is hands down the best album from start to finish that I've ever heard in my life. Sure, the vocals take some gettign used to for a first time listener, but the lyrics are brilliant, the songs ride the perfect harmony between melodic and heavy intensity, and every song has 5+ vocal hooks. Buy this. Dont you DARE buy an individual track either....this masterpiece is meant to be listened to all the way through (hence, the inclusion of the "spider songs") and it really is a life-changing experience for those who are serious about music.
LIFECYCLES
yaa LIFECYCLES!!! ftw
sort of a shame this band is listed under christian & gospel...
...because unfortunately, that turns ME off immediately. cannot speak for others but i was lucky to find the band at all... having NO desire to support ANYTHING christian OR gospel. i forced myself to purchase two songs and am certain i will enjoy them, despite the fact that this band has limited its audience with such a genre identification.
