Sounds like one voice...
And that's usually the goal here with most choirs. Not to sound like a bunch of voices with bad tone, bad resinence, and no space, but the goal is to sound like one voice, one sound, (and be sure to make it a big, nice sound,) with good tone, good resinence, and lots of space in the throat. That's what this choir has. This is amazing. Polyphony is actually a small group, but they have great sound. Amazing sound! I would highly reccomend "Ave Maria," it just sounds like you're floating above the clouds in a dream. It's sure to make your jaw drop. A must buy.
English choral tradition meets an Austrian master
What I find engaging about this recording of the E minor Mass is the marriage of the tone that comes from the clearer English school of choral singing with the rich late romantic harmonies of Bruckner. The sounds is a more "polished" almost shimmering sound, whereas an Austrian choir would likely have a more forward, strident tone. The smoother tone allows the choir to blend beautifully into the timbre of the winds, rather than compete against them. Due credit must be given to the Britton Sinfonia here for creating a rich blanket of sound for the choir to sing with. Needless to say, the motets do not disappoint either, with Polyphony again bringing a refined sound to the wonderfully rich Bruckner harmonies.
