GREAT ALBUM!
This is a GREAT Album by a really talented artist! I've seen her perform several times and I actually own the cd which is actually a better buy because it was mixed by DJ Precision of The X-ecutioners (NYC's #1 DJ Squad). It also contains bonus cuts that are not available here, but nevertheless all these songs are really well done. This artist is a def poetry alumni so you know she's got lyrical skills, on top of that she sings like Celia Cruz and is socially conscious too, she's almost like a Latina Lauryn Hill basically... What's really dope is how she takes classic salsa riffs and sounds and melds it into her music kind of like that group from Cuba The Orishas.... as far as Reggaeton goes, well I'm not a huge fan of this genre, but she pulls it off really well without using those cliche synth sounds and the mindless sex rap - the "La Isla Bonita" cover (not offered here) is off the hook and she does a hot reworking (ala Celina Gonzalez) of a classic Bomba Y Plena song "Boricua Boricua" which is offered here... all in all this is an artist that you should definitely watch out for, especially since Latin music is blowin' the "F" up right about now....
Brujalicious is Delicious!
This album is both deliciosa and the classic bruja that i've loved over the years. this sista is an amazing talent - the rap, the song, the shows, the onscreen skills. she rhymes and sings in spanish, english and spanglish - all fluently, the songs are great, spiritual and even funny at times.... i'm a filmmaker and I have to make a narrative film just to cast her and show the world how great this woman is!
Wow!
This is an awesome CD! I have often heard of her writings and heard some tracks, but this is a great polished CD. I especially like "Revento" which give us a quick history on the one and only "Hector Lavoe". Also, "Nuyorico" tells a story of being Boricua and in NY. Can't wait to see what else she puts to music.
