iTunes Review

Credited to the Mark Lanegan Band since the former singer for the Screaming Trees is expanding his sonic palette beyond the basic quietude of his earlier solo albums (though no consistent band shows up track per track), Bubblegum has the feeling of an epic in progress. It's 15 songs in 50 minutes and a slew of guests accentuate the proceedings. PJ Harvey adds her eerie countenance to the highway chase of "Hit the City." Izzy and Duff from Guns N' Roses, his co-workers Josh Homme and Nick Oliveri from Queens of the Stone Age, and fellow Gutter Twin Greg Dulli contribute to the dark shadows of sound. Lanegan rests on top, adding his apocalyptic monotone to the slow, brooding menace of "When Your Number Isn't Up," a late night radio transmission vocal to the weathered and forlorn "Strange Religion," and a similar snarl to the somber "Morning Glory Wine." The entire album is driven by deep, resonating bass frequencies, as Lanegan's voice rattles the speaker, and the keyboards and bass guitar churn in the subliminal registers.

Customer Reviews

probably one of the greatest albums recorded in the last 5 years

Wow now here is an album finally where you can listen to the whole thing all the way through and not be let down from beginning to end. If you listen to this album and dont feel anything dont worry cause your already dead. Definatly not for the pop MTV crowd cause well first off your brains are small and your ideas of true art well they dont extend past the local mall. I recommend buying this whole album cause you will definatly be back for more so save your money kids this is going to be a classics so be the first on your block to understand the true meaning of art. Thank you once again Mr. Lanegan for yet another great album..

Mark Lanegan is one of a kind

Mark Lanegan creates an album full of ambience and dark places. His voice is an instrument all its own, with the power to deliver words that can hit you like a ton of bricks. This is an artist that follows his muse and takes you with him for the ride.

All things perfectly in place.

In it's simplest form: this is a great album. In a form with the complexity this album deserves: Bubblegum is an album that when given the chance has the potential to embed itself deep into your psyche; with each listen, to ingrain itself completely into your emotional and physical makeup.

Biography

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Mark Lanegan's solo albums are sufficiently dissimilar in tone from those of his regular group, Screaming Trees, to make listeners wonder where his true interests lie. His records often employ a much more acoustic tone, and address much more serious, personal concerns. Despite ample critical acclaim, Lanegan always kept the Screaming Trees his primary concern (that is, until their breakup). The original plan for Lanegan's first solo recording was to do an EP of blues songs with Nirvana's Kurt Cobain...
