A Breath of Fresh Air!
This superb recording is full of surprises. Paul de Castro y su Orquesta Dengue present us not only with the standard fusion of Cuban rhythms and bebop characteristic of most Latin Jazz but also incorporate more recent styles, such as songo or timba, that have developed in the island. Throughout Bueno Pa Gozar, intense Latin Jazz instrumentals seamlessly transform into heady vocal-based dance songs. The range of the music--from the Brazilian tinged Hermeto to the funk/timba mix of Una miradita--is exceptional, as is the quality of the instrumentalists. Highly recommended.
