Customer Reviews
I can't stop playing this CD.
Think Tom Petty meets Nick Drake with the raw and insightful sensibility of Bob Dylan. The vulnerability of 'Love Me", the reflective checklist of 'I Lost It', and the confidant resolve of 'Put Me To The Test' are my favorites.... and the tip of the iceburg in this complex and delicious album. Make sure you add this to your collection.
This review should be a no-brainer for me.
I have long loved Chuck Lee Bramlet’s approach to his songwriting. Raw, hard, fragile, angry and hopeful all at once – lyrically and musically it takes the listener for a ride. The truth is, however, no matter how I try to express the sheer power and beauty of his songs, I cannot do them justice. Each song on Burn Down Start Over is excellent. My favorite is Eyes of a Killer, with its brilliant lyrics and meditative acoustic guitar. Chuck’s voice is often compared to that of Tom Petty – and while that is somewhat accurate, Mr. Petty does not come close. Chuck has something that Mr. Petty does not - a sense of drama. Don’t get me wrong, I am in no way saying that he is over the top. His delivery is subtle and I find the appeal in Chuck’s voice to be not only the tone of his voice, but the way his vowels and consonants flow together, sometimes softly and other times with an edge. Top notch songs all the way around. This is a must have for anyone who likes good music. It will never leave your iPod. Ever. I promise.
Bravo!
Chuck Lee Bramlet is the real deal. These songs make me feel closer to the center of everything. There is a redemptive quality to this CD, and what I love most is that I'm not quite sure if the bad guys won, or lost. This record makes me want to drive really fast so I can catch up to the intensity of the songs. There is not a breath, a note, or a word wasted. It's all coming from the depths of his soul (you can tell), but the songs are so masterfully crafted that you don't realize your heart's been pierced until you're peeling yourself off the floor. Ha! Too late! I dare you to listen to "Werewolf on my Nightstand" and not cry. It's a perfect song. I dare you to listen to this record and not feel like you've just experienced a major triumph. That's what happened to me. Beautiful.
