Chemlab (singer Jared Louche, programmer Dylan Thomas More and a changing cast of supporting musicians) started out as an aggressive, but not overpoweringly so, electro-dance outfit. This digitally remastered reissue of the band's debut album reveals a group lurching toward tightly controlled sonic pandemonium while still maintaining a firm grip on old-fashioned, blippy, synth riffs and the occasional shred of actual melody. Charming song titles like "Codeine, Glue and You" and "Summer of Hate" will give the faint of heart fair warning; those who don't mind a little aggro-nihilism with their dance beats will know just what to expect. Highlights include the nicely arranged "Neurozone" and the very heavy "Suicide Jag." This reissue also includes remixes of "Chemical Halo" and "Suicide Jag."

A defining album - An Industrial Classic & Must Have

New York City's Chemlab is one of the most important underground Industrial bands. In the early 1990s there was a movement of new bands defining a genre and Chemlab was at the front of the line. This album is a must have for any collection with such hits as Summer of Hate (still a classic), Suicide Jag (so good performed live!!), and Codeine, Glue, and You which allows Jared Louche to be the performer and front man he was born to be - listen to Jared in all his glory as he belts out this hit.

quintesential industrial

I saw Chemlab open for KMFDM when "Burn Out..." was first released. They were not joking when they played Summer of Hate and left very little of that stage for kmfdm to stand on. Anything following this sounds like elevator music. So rivet heads, slam it in, jack it up and leave no doubt that you are not sedate in these years of hate.

Great album that you will bump for years to come.

I've had this album for ahwile now. This is one of those albums where you can listen to it all the way through and enjoy every single track, and those are hard to come by. If you like industrial music then you will love this album. It honestly never gets old and I consider it a true work of art.

Influenced by Throbbing Gristle and '80s industrial bands, Jared Hendriksen (vocals, programming) and Dylan Thomas More (programming) met up in Washington, D.C. in the late '80s. The duo began recording as Chemlab with the Ten Ton Pressure EP in 1990, and a tour with Nine Inch Nails the following year gained them a larger audience. After signing with Metal Blade, Hendriksen and More assembled a band (guitarist Steve Watson, bassist Ned Wahl and drummer Mark Kermanj) to record Burn Out at the Hydrogen...
