iTunes Review
Brooklyn’s Bear Hands steer a happy middle course between electronica and indie rock to create a quirky, enjoyable, and accessible release in Burning Bush Supper Club. These 11 well-paced songs feature stuttering synth rhythms, bouncing bass, terse drumming, and fuzzed-out guitars laid against a slew of nicely textured backdrops. Variety abounds here, from the structure of the songs to the vocals. “Blood and Treasure” is catchy riff-rock, “Julien” and “Wicksey Boxing” are atmospheric and lush, and “Tablasaurus” would work on the dance floor. Lead singer Dylan Rau has an intriguing chameleon voice that he morphs at will. He sings in a pinched falsetto on “Camel Convention” and the skittering standout “Crime Pays,” emotes in nasally bursts on “Belongings” and “High Society,” and “What a Drag” and “Can’t Stick Em” feature a crisp vocal bark. Though they do cover a lot of stylistic ground, track for track the songs are concise and catchy enough to be consistently fun, making this an energetic and exciting full-length debut.
Customer Reviews
Arcade Fire meets Animal Collective
Never would I have thought the fruits of my labor (looking through the heavy rotation slot on indie spotlight) would be as great as this. This band is the find of a century, How have I (and maybe you) never heard of them before. If only there was a 6th star I could give to this album. Anyone who likes Animal Collective or Arcade Fire would love this; it's a combination of the two. like this review if you agree, I simply cannot stop hearing it....and those are two of my favorite bands!!!!! if u dont listen to AF or AC because they are too "mainstream", buy this album anyway. its amazing and ive only had it for a few hours
FINALLY!!!!
