A wonderful score finally recorded!
I saw this show tryout in San Francisco, and though there were challenges with the show (the main one being the miscast Tommy Tune; Jim Dale or Robert Lindsay should have done it from the start), the music was terrific. It was long overdue for a recording - and the female lead, Darcy Roberts, had the show come into New York, would have become a Broadway star. She was that good. Jessica Grove has a beautiful voice though.
Sherman Brothers!
This musical was written by the Sherman Brothers along with A. J. Carothers. Richard and Robert Sherman wrote some of the greatest musicals ever, including The Jungle Book, Mary Poppins, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, along with many, many others. This is more of their great music. Fun, catchy, singable, heartfelt. And Jim Dale is perfect for the role of Charlie the Busker. Bravo! You should watch for the upcoming documentary on the Sherman Brothers called The Boys. theboysdoc.com
