Right on
Anything live from this man deserves 5 Stars. Mike's music is usually ahead of it's time so a 2008 is not only appropriate but timely.
Live recording at its best
I was tempted to write a review for this before even listening to the album because these are all songs Doughty fans should already familiar with. I’m glad I gave it a thorough listen first. There are some special aspect of this album that bear pointing out.
If you are not already familiar with Mike Doughty go pick up a copy of any of his previous work ie Haughty Melodic, Golden Delicious…the list goes on. Familiarize yourself with his catalog an then come back for this record.
For everyone else this is a beautiful album and is live recording at its best. You get the background chatter and little musical hiccups that happen in live music that makes it so special. What you won’t find here is people screaming out in the middle of songs or clapping over intros and endings. Personally these are some of my favorite songs in Mike’s repertoire and lend themselves to the haunting lonely quality the subway lends them.
If you are lucky enough to own a copy of Smofe and Smang this is a totally different live listening experience so click the buy button and enjoy.
