Customer Reviews
Not his best work
but still worthy of support. I've never understood what the appeal is to the Butterfly concerto but people seem to like it and Gil's got to pay the bills somehow. As for the Tchaikovsky I much prefer his earlier go at it on DG. This reading is also oddly sub-par especially when comparing it to the recent Janine Jansen recording. Still Shaham is an amazing artist and I'd support him anyway just to let the boys at DG remember what an awful mistake it was to drop him from the roster.
One of the best
Although the Singapore Symphony Orchestra may not be the most world-renowned orchestra, it does an excellent job with Gil Shaham in this album. Highly recommended!
I always like Gil but . . .
I think his Tchaikovsky in this is great, just like the last one but I find it too similar to his last recording of it which was awhile ago. I would have expected a little bit more change from anyone over a few years so in that sense it is disappointing but it is none the less a great recording.
