"Buy Nothing Day" happens to be one of the stronger songs off their upcoming 2011 album Rolling Blackouts and easily the most accessible to those who aren't familiar with the band's sound. It's no wonder that Memphis Industries chose this as the first official single from the album. It might also help that lead vocals are provided from Best Coast's Bethany Cosentino. While the track is not as exciting as the unofficial single (and the song that kicks off the album) "T.O.R.N.A.D.O.," it's still a catchy tune and is very remisicient of The Go! Team's earlier work than what came off "Proof of Youth." The B-side, cover song "I'm Not Satisified," isn't as great, but still worth a listen.
Buy "Buy Nothing Day"!
I love The Go! Team and this single is a great example of why. Discordant instruments and sounds all brought together into beatiful harmony with hooks that could kill a unicorn. Fantastic greatness.
Can I Give This A 10-Star Rating???
Following the genius that is "Thunder Lightning Strike," "Proof Of Youth" felt like a major letdown.
Thankfully, my continued faith in The Go! Team has been redeemed - Buy Nothing Day is as encouraging about the forthcoming album as it is amazing and wonderful!
Without question, Buy Nothing Day is the best song of 2010...
