Album Review
Apparently, Dillinger has solved the complex equation asked of their album title and the answer is strange and complex. Oddly enough, Relapse is marketing this as "math metal," a term that almost fits. Having enjoyed Dillinger's bombastic, grindy punk debut mini-album, Calculating Infinity seems ten times more explosive and brilliant, as it spews forth anger and venomous misery in a way that is comparable only to spontaneous combustion. Continuing to expand upon the ultra-aggressive, deliciously technical approach they adopt toward grind and hardcore, the band has fully embraced its amazing knack for rhythmic melody on tracks like "*#" and "Weekend Sex Change." Fear not Dillinger fans, for there is enough uncontrolled hatred and violence on this release to satisfy five bands, let alone New Jersey's native sons. This album is both screechingly abrasive, as evident on "Clip the Apex... Accept Institution," and morbidly beautiful, with the Slint-ish acoustic passages of "The Running Board." "Destro's Secret" contains such an amazing progressive dance between guitar and bass that one could only compare it to the mighty Cynic. The drumming rates near the top of any extreme metal drumming, combining an offbeat jazz style with an aggressive Cryptopsy-like technical approach. The vocals are raw, disturbing, and creepy causing a strange chill to crawl up the spine. Who will appreciate Dillinger then? The eclectics and musicians who understand the complexity of the band and genius chaotically held within.

A defining moment in music.
Dillinger Escape Plan. The band that opened me up to jazz. The band that gave me confidence in my music to truely do what I want, despite what everyone else thinks. This band has so much importance to me personally I couldn't describe it in words. What Calculating Infinity offers in inspiring music with a soul of its own. I could just sit here totally calm and just enjoy it knowing full well the beauty of the music or I could set new heights for what crazy and out of control mean. You find out just what Dillinger is about the second the album starts with "Sugar Coated Sour" that crazy drum-guitar thing I can't even describe..Then BOOM! Right into complete chaos, crazy time signatures, screaming that somehow has beauty in the context of the music, and something just totally different from anything you've ever heard. (unless you've heard clones bands who were "inspired" to be the exact same band) "Destro's Secret" as it show cases much of what makes these guys so good in under 2 minutes. So many good moments in this cd. Honestly if your a musician interested in music get this. If not you might like Miss Machine better as its more accessible. This is just raw Dillinger doing what only they can do, play complex music like no one before them. True innovation. (maybe even invetion)
How'd I Miss It For So Long
Felt kinda stupid after really getting into this album, since I knew it existed for four years and just chose to ignore it. But now that this thing has etched its initials in my soul and heart Im always imagining how i couldve ended up if I heard it sonner in my life. Dillinger Escape Plan have created something just so unfathomably of violence, it just invites you into vistas of raw techinical submisson. It's pointless to try and go any further, I could spill my guts for Calculating Infinity for an entire day. Each song just so vitally part of this vicious experience. The music is just so intense its hard to gather words for it, What ive always been attracted to is how raw the vocals are; the lyrics are just so surreal and horrific. I just reccomend buying it right now, under the entire musical scale it outmatches anything goes way past even hardcore music. This is just a no holds barred mindf**k spectatcle that must be experienced. I F**king live for it though I Tell ya that, I wanna scream it at the world with a knife in my hand.
hot damn!
There guitarist and singer and drummer and crazy! Everything about them is crazy! Once I saw them and there guitarist totally kicked the singer where the son don't shine while playing, then he started swinging his mike and hit him in the head! He was bleeding! Mobs on stage! These guys are too cool!
