awesome collaboration
I was excited to hear that Kanon from An Cafe and Kanon Wakeshima were forming a group, but I never thought it would be on itunes! Calendula Requiem is actually a really nice song and i liked The dollhouse! too, its very interesting. I haven't actually listened to much of Kanon Wakeshima's solo stuff, but this is probably more closer to that style than to An cafe. So overall this is a really good single, you should definitely buy it.
Anime Pop Goodness
The a-side is a fantastic piece of power pop; the b-side is more classic Wakeshima. It reminds me quite a bit of Ali Project, in a good way. Fans of Kanon-san from An Cafe might enjoy the instrumental versionof Calendula Requiem, since you can hear more of his guitar work in that one. (Love Wakeshima's vocals, but they kinda drowned out his contribution.) Recommend for fans of Wakeshima, anime soundtracks, and Ali Project. ^_^
Strong
I wasn't too sure about this group when i heard they were going to be Japanese sounding but I already was going to get this because kanon wakeshima is zoo talented. Calendula requiem is a song with powerful feelings flowing all around. Kanon wrote the lyrics and sings them VERY realistically. It is also a return of her gothic style of writing lyrics, and it inspired to watch the amazing horror anime it opens for, shiki. The only thing i wonder is what she was feeling when she wrote it. 2:the doll house is a very cute but creepy song, much like Kanon 's own style. It along with requiem have a little Japanese sounding backgrounds, and this one is particularly interesting. It feels like walking into a haunted castle that draws you in just by the sight. Isn't as strong as calendula requiem, but some may prefer it due to length. A strong first single as an interesting anime / japan style group. Interesting enough the doll house would make an excellent anime opening. Finally I hope for another single, either by kanon x kanon or just wakeshima. A duet with both kanons would be epic also. Lastly kanon really likes her name sake (kanon wakeshima is written as the sound of flowers in japanese. Calendula is a flower with healing properties ironically ( I think). ).
