One of the greatest albums of our time...
This is a truly execptional album by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. All of the songs on this record are worthy of 5 stars, some even more. Signature hits "Around the World", "Scar Tissue", "Californication", "Parallel Universe", "Otherside", and the lesser known "Purple Stain" are all essential RHCP songs. Other songs are all a great listen; "Easily" is an upbeat song that is very catchy and melodic, "Porcelain" is a rare lullaby-like song that the Chili Peppers masterfully execute, and the praise does not end there. "Right On Time" has been performed numerous times live and it is regularly used as an interlude. Every single song deserves at least 10 play throughs with the volume all the way up. This album will grow on you if you give it time. Put simply, Californication is a work of art that cannot easily be compared to.
Essential '90's Album
This a must listen for any Chili Pepper fan, it seems to represent the end of the '90's in a good way. The best tracks are: "Around the World" "Scar Tissue" "Californication" "I Like Dirt" and "Road Trippin'" You won't regret buying this!
Fantastic Like All of Their Work
This album is fantastic! I rate it as my second favorite to By The Way! It combines the greatness of their previous albums while inventing its own unique sound. Here is how I judge each song as a single (although you should buy the entire album): Around the World: 10/10 Funky and awesome. It excels in all terms of sound with every instrument and is lyrically great. Parallel Universe: 9.5/10 Great hard rocker but just short of perfect. Scar Tissue: 10/10 Emotional and beautiful. Instant classic. Otherside: 10/10 Fantastic in all aspects. One of my all time favorites! Get On Top: 9/10 Funky but again just short of perfection. Californication: 9.5/10 Lyrically amazing and a great listen. Easily: 10/10 I love this song! A great mix b/w the old and the new styles. Porcelain: 8/10 A little too slow but I still enjoy it. Emit Remmus: 7.5/10 My least favorite song on the album. It just never really appealed to me. I Like Dirt: 10/10 Funky and great sounding. Even its short length doesn't hurt it. This Velvet Glove: 10/10 A great song that is great in all aspects. Savior: 8.5/10 An enjoyable song but gets old quick. Purple Stain: 10/10 Fantastic! Funky, has a great beat, and the lyrics are amazing. Right On Time: 9/10 A great song that gets killed by its length. Road Trippin': 10/10 Great way to end the album with a beautiful and thoughtful piece. The bonus track version is worth buying but you should substitute the cover for the original. The bonus tracks are: Over Funk: 10/10 One of my favorite RHCP's songs. Has no reason to be left off the album. Quixoticelixer: 10/10 A personal favorite of Kiedus' and for me as well. Great and fun. Fat Dance: 9/10 A fun song. The singing is great but the lyrics aren't there.
