iTunes Review
It’s inevitable that the single “Sweet and Low” from Augustana’s sophomore album will be compared to the hit “Boston,” from their 2005 major label debut, but this time around the band is more piano-led than piano-inspired, and the songwriting feels more considered, more carefully crafted. Those who like the grand keyboards and dramatic flourishes common to the genre will love “Hey Now” and the darker “Dust,” which builds to a powerful finish. True ballads like the lovely “Fire” and “Twenty Years” are fine examples of a young band finding their hearts on their sleeves, but keeping the emo-stylings at bay and sounding original and fresh. The perkier tempos and chunkier guitars of “Either Way” and “Meet You There” both have a Tom Petty-ish energy, and “I’m Still Not Over You” is a close contender with “I’ll Stay” for the second most radio-ready track in the collection. Overall, Augustana seem to be honing their mainstream rock voice to a sharper edge, while also figuring out what sorts of textures work to make an entire album really engaging and worth listening to all the way through. The pretty acoustic versions of “Sweet and Low” and “Hey Now” (here in video format) are well worth having as bonuses.

All-around Great Album!
This is a great album by Augustana! The songs are packed with meaningful lyrics, and addictive melodies. If you are a fan of Augustana, you will not be disappointed! After listening to the album for nearly two weeks straight, there is my breakdown of the songs: Hey Now- This is one of my favorite songs on the album. The chorus lyrics are very deep, and it has a soothing and peaceful feel to it, yet it's not slow or dreary. It's a great song to listen to when you're driving in the car, and just want to clear your head. I Still Ain't Over You- This song is decent, yet not one of my favorites. It's slightly faster paced than many songs on the album, but there is something about this song that annoys me. Sweet and Low- The reason why I bought this album. I absolutely love this song! It's very relaxing, and has a well balanced melody and sounds throughout the track. I love the acoustic version of this song. Twenty Years- This is one of the slower songs on the album, but is one of my favorites. It's great to relax to, and the piano sounds are very pleasing to the ears. The lyrics are also very meaningful. Meet You There- As one of the faster paced songs on the album, it has a good melody, but after listening to it a few times, I grew tired of hearing it. But, after not listening to it for a few days, it's fun to listen to. Fire- Another slightly slow song. I really like the lyrics of this song, along with the piano. I really like to listen to this song when I'm getting ready to go out in the evenings! :) Either Way, I'll Break Your Heart Someday- The melody to this song is rather catchy and upbeat. I like this song, but it's one of those songs that get old for me if I listen to it too often. Dust- This song seems kind of moody to me, but I like it. It has an edgy feel, without being too loud or distracting. Rest, Shame, Love- This song is really relaxing and peaceful, I just want to sit on a front porch with some lemonade with this song! Another one of my favorites on the album. Where Love Went Wrong- This is by far my favorite song on the album. It wraps up the album quite brilliantly. The lyrics are very deep, and the melody is very well-balanced and seems to have a mixture of quiet/peaceful times, and also loud segments. This is a song I could listen to and never get tired of :) Overall, it's a great album and is worth purchasing. If I had to option to re-purchase the album, I would definitely do it again. Each song carries a different message and melody that can suit every mood!
Popularity hasn't changed their sound...much
I was unpleasntly surprised with this album at first sound. The vocals seemed gaspy, similar to power-pop bands such as Spill Canvas, Rocket Summer, etc. I was about to cry. All The Stars And Bouldvards is my most listened to album ever, even amidst Modest Mouse and Dave Matthews Band. I am a huge fan and I've been waiting for this album release for a damn long while. My early sentiments were quickly reversed. The album on the whole is pure, deep, melodic, forceful yet subtle, wholesome, and all around solid. Great mix all around. Good song variation, good flow, good balance between instrumentals and vocals, good sound balance, over all a very well recorded and well produced album. Not as good as their debut, but not a bad Sophomore attempt at all, even with the band's new found hype. Their national popularity hasn't changed their sound, as happens with so many of my favorite artists. A solid buy. Hardcore fans and casual alternative-pop-rock listeners will be happy with it. Also look for: Sea Wolf, The Format, All Smiles, Ugly Cassanova, Cold War Kids, Guster, The Decemberists, Flobots, and Something Underground. Fans of this will like the bands listed above.
