Album Review

Taking a cue from the Eagles, Foreigner decided to release their first album in 15 years exclusively through Walmart, creating a package that touches upon all phases of their past and into the present on the three-disc Can't Slow Down. The first disc is a brand-new studio recording, the first to feature their new lead vocalist Kelly Hansen, who joined in 2005, replacing Lou Gramm's replacement. The second is a collection of classic hits remixed by Anthony Focx and Marti Frederiksen — the latter produced the bulk of the new album with Mick Jones, who is the only remaining original member of the band — while the third disc is a DVD of live performances from 2009, expanded with footage from the making of the album. The DVD is certainly for hardcore fans only, and the same argument could be leveled against the remix disc, since only those intimately familiar with the originals could spot how these differ (generally, they may be punchier but they're not far removed from the originals). Then again, since these remixes aren't much different than the originals, they're ideal for the general customer who picks this up as an enhanced greatest-hits collection: they sound like the versions they remember from the radio, and the rest of Can't Slow Down sounds like it could have been a hit in the late '80s, appearing as the sequel to 1987's Inside Information. Hansen sounds uncannily like Gramm, to the point that any casual fan could mistake him for his predecessor, and the songs are good, tight arena rock, whether they're fist-pumping anthems like the title track and "Give Me a Sign" or power ballads like "When It Comes to Love" and "As Long as I Live." Nothing here is hip or will convert skeptics, but everything here will satisfy fans who have been waiting years for new music from Foreigner.

Pretty good!

While not as good as some of the classic albums from the 70's and 80's, I really like this album. Kelly Hansen is a great singer and a smart replacement for Lou Gramm. My favorites are Too Late, Can't Slow Down, As Long As I Live, and When It Comes To Love. Have fun listening.

Foreigner - Rejuvenated and Back!

While Lou Gramm is no longer on board, Kelly Hansen (ex-frontman for 80's metal band - Hurricane) steps in and does a fine job on the pipes. Let's not forget Mr. Jeff Pilson on bass/vocals (ex-Dokken) who also gives this band an interesting boost of energy. Can you expect another 'Hot Blooded' here? Probably not, but who needs that? It's 2010 and just the fact that Foreigner is back, simply says it all!

Blast From The Past

Foreigner wonder band from the '80's will entertain you in full energy and volume!
They're really a band that never left the music scene and they still have their magic touch.
Yeah, the lyrics aren't as dynamic as their sound but you'll excuse that when you give them a listen.
"When it comes to love" is mixed with a bit of sounds gone by.
"Fool for you anyway" is the stand out song and you wish there were more like this one.
Still the album is worth the rock 'n roll price and you'll probably find yourself singing along in your own full volume style in your car!

Biography

Formed: 1976 in New York, NY

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

While quite a few arena rock acts of the '70s found the transformation into the '80s quite difficult, several acts continued to flourish and enjoyed some of their biggest commercial success: Journey, Styx, REO Speedwagon, and especially Foreigner. Foreigner's leader from the beginning has been British guitarist Mick Jones, who first broke into the music biz as a "hired gun" of sorts, appearing on recordings by George Harrison and Peter Frampton, and as part of a later-day version of hard rockers...
