iTunes Review

Fans who have been with Good Charlotte since their 2000 eponymous debut will rejoice in the band’s return to form with 2010’s Cardiology. A refreshing departure from 2007’s Good Morning Revival which had them going for a dance/punk hybrid, their fifth studio album is a more mature outing (well, as mature as punk-pop can get). With song subject-matter orbiting around themes of the heart, these tunes show an emotionally wiser band – ten years following their first album finds the guys with wives and children, so they sing of appreciating every moment in some of these songs, most noticeably in “Standing Ovation.” The 47-second long “Introduction to Cardiology” opens like the overture of a musical before “Let the Music Play” kicks in with ascending guitar riffs and life-inspired lyrics. Things get a little rootsy and nostalgic on “1979,” sounding like the band borrowed Sheryl Crow’s Hammond organ player, but even in these more pensive moments, they let loose those punchy, poppy hooks that make them sound like Good Charlotte.

Cardiology won't disappoint...

This album will not disappoint any GC fan. There's something for everyone one this album. It's a must buy!

Great CD.

Rather you like old school Good Charlotte (Self Titled CD, The Young And The Hopeless) or their newer sound (Good Morning Revival) it's all here. They returned to their roots with their punk-pop sound, but definitely matured in their lyrics. Catchy hooks, and power chords all the way. Possibly one of their best albums yet.

Not for True GC fans

I've followed Good Charlotte ever since the beginning, and slowly watched the teenage rage that drove their music disappear. Good Morning Revival was going in the wrong direction with meaningless songs and horrible guitar riffs, and I was hoping they would turn it around after that. However, this is even worse. It sounds like they hired a teenage boy band to write their lyrics. They're so meaningless, except maybe Harlow's Song. The teenage angst is gone, and along with it, their great music. That's the reason they got into the business. But now since they're not angry anymore, they don't have any heart-felt material. "Cardiology is guiding you and me" just sounds like they're desperate for rhymes. Overall I was extremely disappointed and let down by Good Charlotte, and won't be anticipating good stuff from them anymore.

The East Coast post-grunge/pop-punk outfit Good Charlotte was founded in 1996 by identical brothers Joel and Benji Madden. Inspired by a Beastie Boys performance on their 1995 Ill Communication tour, the Maddens enlisted the help of several high school classmates in assembling a band that combined the energetic elements spawned from '70s punk with the sentimental ballads of mainstream corporate rock. Good Charlotte was soon formed, with Joel Madden handling lead vocals and Benji...
