iTunes Review

If the nineties revival has to happen, let it begin here. This L.A.-based act is smart enough to know where to steal and they arrive armed with huge melodic hooks. Plus, they know better than to wear smelly flannels. Imagine a Blink 182 who'd spent their wild and restless youth copying Swervedriver, Lush and My Bloody Valentine rather than the Descendents, Adolescents and Agent Orange. (That's meant as an utter compliment, by the way.) The Silversun Pickups' sense of dynamics is straight from the grunge era, but the songs themselves are strung together in a more contemporary way, often eschewing typical verse-chorus-verse structures. Their sound is tuneful and sweet while detuned and barbed. Somehow, they manage to be a genuinely exciting alternative rock band while sounding an awful lot like the Smashing Pumpkins. And that has to count for something, right?

I believe...

Once upon a time, I was shopping in a trendy lil clothing store where I found a free sampler CD. On this sampler CD was a song called "Well Thought Out Twinkles"by SSPU. It floored me. So, I jump on the ol' Itunes and sampled the rest of the disc, and lost my breath. I clicked that "Add Album" button so fast and hard, I now have to buy a new mouse. Everything I've heard from this band is golden. BUY THIS ALBUM. Thank you.

Best Album of 2006

Shoegaze didn't just colapse; it imploded, in 1992 Ride started hating each other, My Bloody Valentine left the known solar system and and Souldrive disapeared. What killed it? Grunge; what the ninties were known for, but on to the point the SSPU, emerage at a damn fine time. They combine there post-punk and 90's kitsch alt to from an etch of shoegaze only the 21st century could churn up. But the mainstream may not be ready for such a band, and Billy Corgans Solo album may prove that, Alt kids are still stuck in the past listening to The Strokes and the White Stripes. Still SSPU combine things from all the highlights of Alternatives history; and make a damn fine album, maybe in the future would it be the next Nevermind, but for now, it's a damn fine indie album.

Favorite Album and Favorite Band

This is by far my favorite band ever as well as album (as it says in title) so I thought i might review some of these songs...
1.Melatonin: Has a nice tune to it and its very and the Nikki (the bassist) gets to sing in some of it..overall it's a 9.5.
2.Well Though Out Twinkles: This song is more of a rock song and it slides in perfectly with the album...one of the best songs on here with nice drums and tune. 9.75
3.Checkered Floor: The guitar is nice on this one as well as bass and I like it a lot -- the story in the song makes sense too (well sort of). 9
4. Little Lover's So Polite: This song has heavier guitar than the others but it works with this kind of song and there are some complicated drum beats that are nice. 10
5.Future Foe Scenarios: This song is INCREDIBLE...I absolutely love it the keyboard that makes background nice does a phenomanel job on this one. 10
6. Waste It On: This song is really nice but it was my least favorite beacuse it gets repetetive always going back to "We waste it on...we waste it on..." It still has nice beat and melody though. 8.5
7. Lazy Eye: This song gives you that vibe that it feels right and everything moves in tempo and together but there is one part that I didnt like which lowered its rating a bit -- the screaming part in the middle. I still love the song i could do without that though...after a few listens though it seems normal and almost like its needing it in there. 9.5
8. Rusted Wheel: This is my favorite song on the album because it has some nice slow quiet areas and some great singing...the keyboard does a nice job too. 10
9.Dream at Tempo 119: The beginning is almost mystifying and then it takes it into high gear which is a nice twist for a song like this...it gives you the feeling of being surrounded (for me anyways) and the guitars are nice; its a great song. 9.5
10. Three Seed: This is one of the slower songs on the album...talking about the execution of someone. Theres a nice bass line in this song and the drums are good too. 9.5
11. Common Reactor: Starts out with a little drum solo followed by guitar and then finally lyrics...I haven't completely understood the words or the story but its a very nice song...the ending of about 1:30 minutes of heavy guitar i could do without but otherwise its nice. 9

Biography

Formed: Los Angeles, CA

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '00s

Brian Aubert (guitar/vocals), Nikki Monninger (bass), Christopher Guanlao (drums), and Joe Lester (keyboards) comprise the swarthy indie rock stylings of Silversun Pickups. The quartet's textured melodies capture the hypnotic dream pop threads of My Bloody Valentine and pop bitter sweetness of Earlimart, and such a blend has wowed their native L.A. since 2005. Silversun Pickups issued their debut release, the six-song Pikul EP that same year while shared show dates with the likes of Brendan Benson,...
