Album Review

Like many of his peers, Cat Stevens made records that were identified by strong, memorable hit singles, but make no mistake: he made albums that were cohesive works onto themselves. For that reason, the very idea of a Cat Stevens greatest-hits collection may be troublesome to some fans, since they will only notice the missing album tracks, but Greatest Hits does its job exceptionally well. With the exception of "The Hurt," all of his hits from the early '70s — "Wild World," "Moon Shadow," "Peace Train," "Morning Has Broken," "Sitting," "Oh Very Young," "Another Saturday Night," "Ready," and "Two Fine People" — are here, along with three other fine album tracks. In short, it is everything that casual fans need — and even fans that find a favorite or two missing will be hard-pressed to deny that this is a solid introduction and a great listen.

Customer Reviews

I'm twelve and I LOVE Cat Stevens!!

Call me a nerd, but I just think he's INCREDIBLE. My favorite track by far is "Moonshadow" but eveything on here is pretty amazing, like "Wild World" and "Peace Train." And really people, who cares if he converted to Islam? Islam's not a bad religion! Just those insane terrorists who drop bombs "in the name of Allah" have put a bad name on it. If we really took the time to understand this beautiful culture, we would realize that Muslims are actually gentle, good people who simply practice a religion that we know little about. I am quite proud to say one of my best friends is Muslim and she's the nicest person I've ever met. I hope Cat Stevens keeps doing what he does best-making beautiful music!

A well-done Cat Stevens Anthology

"Greatest Hits" albums tend to be rehashes, recollections, or re-marketing of existing music. "Cat Stevens: Greatest Hits" is an exception. This album is not only a collection of wonderful music, it is well-ordered, and well selected. The general flow of the album is comfortable, with excellent transitions such as "Father and Son", followed by "Sitting" and "Morning Has Broken." Diehard Cat Stevens fans will find this album comforting and enjoyable. New Cat Stevens listeners will become diehard fans after listening to "Greatest Hits"

Wow

Wow. When my mom got this CD I rolled my eyes but then I listened to it and I really liked it. I am really surprised because normally my mom only likes old fogey music. It's really good and I am only 13.
