Album Review

Recorded with longtime producer Steve Rizun in their off days during three straight years of touring, Cavalcade finds Canadian Fat Wreck artists the Flatliners in top form. Their chops are expectedly tight, the songs are road-tested and true, and their sound is rougher and heavier than before, as Chris Cresswell’s throaty rasp leads the way over chugging skate-park rhythms. Bad puns aside, “Liver Alone” and “Here Comes Treble” are strong songs, with the rushed, harsh hooks that fans have come to expect and love. The majority of Cavalcade holds steady in the melodic pop-punk style of labelmates Dead to Me and Anti-Flag, with the occasional detour; "Monumental" is poppy enough for radio play, and “He Was a Jazzman” briefly recalls the band’s ska roots with Scott Brigham’s choppy, syncopated guitar work. Also, to break it up, a number of guests make appearances. Dillinger Four’s Paddy Costello, Erik Funk, and Bill Morrisette sing on “Bleed,” A Wilhelm Scream vocalist Nuno Pereira sings on “Shithawks,” and Cancer Bats’ Liam Cormier sings on “The Calming Collection” and “Sleep Your Life Away.” These are all welcome additions, as are the choice samples from the 1987 mockumentary More Bad News.

Should've known =D

The Flatliners have to be the best punk band out there. In terms of song writing and presentation these guys just take the cake. Booming vocals (might i add all the vocals sound amazing), catchy guitar parts accompanied by intense lead parts, a very technical and compitent bassist and finally the most solid drumming i think i've ever heard. After the release of Cynics we should've all known this new CD would be a killer. I'll admit it's not as good as The Great Awake...but cmon' thats a hard CD to beat! EVERYONE SHOULD OWN THIS CD, Support these guys and pay for the CD here on iTunes or elsewhere, these guys deserve to be getting tons of money for the music they make

Cavalcade

This is a huge leap forward from The Great Awake. In my opinion, it's probably either equal to or better than Destroy to Create. Very solid album, each song shows how much these guys have progressed from their straight up skacore days. It appears as if they actually threw their old albums together into one (with more of a Great Awake sound of course). They hold true to their reggae/ska roots in "He Was a Jazzman" and "Shithawks", while at the same time perfecting the route they took with The Great Awake. Buy the entire album, it's worth every penny (and if you feel like being a jerk, at least either steal the album or buy "Here Comes Treble". Awesome song, really intense). These guys are some of the nicest guys I've ever met, plus they are amazing musicians. Keep it up guys, yer going places!

Sweet!

I've been listening to the album non stop for the past couple of days. I love everything about it. Lyrics are awesome and the instrumentals are great. This is no "Destroy to Create" but just as good. The first half of the album is really strong and has some of my favorites off the album. The rest of it is good too but just doesn't grab my attention as much.

Instead, the Flatliners play aggressive but melodic old-school, pre-hardcore punk rock songs, enlivened with the occasional dubby bassline...
