Cavashawn is your new obsession
Hailing from Ohio, the group formerly known as Marking Twain is taking the Midwest by storm. It has even been speculated that the sheer popularity of Cavashawn’s title EP was the accidental cause of the recent flooding in America’s Heartland. Yet, as the flood waters started to recede, the Cavashawn current still runs strong. The catchy lyrics and bouncy beats of the Cavashawn EP will put a smile on even the biggest killjoy’s face. It is one of those albums that, after giving it a few listens, you find yourself accidentally humming while in the shower. It seems that nothing could possibly be better than listening to the four songs on the EP, especially the highly captivating “Out of My Mind.” A slight modification to the chorus will make this tune the anthem of any generation (though everyone knows kids from the 80s are the craziest). For those feeling a little blue about their love lives, “Just Because” and “Thrill” are the perfect remedies. As self-accredited doctor of musicology, I would suggest listening to “Just Because” first, since it is a little more lamentageous and better for the first stages of misery and woe. After a few doses, listen to “Thrill” for awhile and you will feel much more empowered and avenged. Just try not to take a baseball bat to his/her car headlights. That would probably not be a good idea. He/she is not worth it anyway. If you are feeling crushed by a crush, “Madison” is what you need to be un-squashed. Scott Salmon, who provides the entrancing vocals of Cavashawn, has claimed the song is about his first encounter with an exotic dancer. Whether you are in love with a stripper or cannot stop drooling over the guy who sits two seats in front of you in chemistry, “Madison” comforts you in knowing that you are not alone. The only exception to the “Madison” medication would be if you happen to have a crush on one of the Cavashawn boys. And why would you not have a crush on them? They are absolutely adorable in their trademark v-neck t-shirts and vests. If these attractive and talented dudes are the objects of your unrequited affection, the best remedy would be to attend one of their many shows, which are listed on their Myspace (myspace.com/cavashawn). If this review has convinced you to join forces with one of the greatest up-and-coming bands in the Chicago area, comments about it on their Myspace or mentioning it to a member of Cavashawn at a show would be highly appreciated.
