Musical chemistry never sounded as good as this!
The songs are well crafted and the band's organic, fluid playing is something to behold. Lead vocalist Erika Lloyd sings like a beautiful, exotic bird. There are many highlights on this album, but "Southwestern Yellow Line" is my favorite with its cool bossanova style. That song alone justifies buying the whole album!
Trip to Cloud Nine
LGG's full length debut is one of the most dynamic albums you'll find this year, and begs to be experienced start to finish. More than just a collection of songs, Cells Planets is a true musical journey. Opening with lush, budding harmonies, "Hold On" features some amazing vocals that at times remind me of Joni Mitchell's ability to dance through melodies of epic proportions, and then the tracks begins to simmer, paving the way for a spunky ditty about the bands' namesake. "Time Pops Bubbles" sounds like the music you'd find in a Western saloon frozen in time and transported to outer space, which perfectly sets up the floating, dreamy "Bells." "Southwestern Yellow Line," possibly my favorite track, spins around a catchy odd meter hook. "Cereal Box World" would fit perfectly in a Tim Burton flick, and then it's straight into one of the most danceable tracks, the ironic "Party People." The only criticism I could imagine is that there aren't more club bangers like this one, which is clearly a fan favorite if you ever catch this group live. You'll want to pinch yourself before the end of the album. It's rare to find songwriting diversity that executes so well as a complete album, but just listen and you'll believe!
