BEST BAND IN THE WHONIVERSE.
Apology for the pun, but... Chameleon Circuit may just be the most genius thing in the world. The music is awesome, the band members are awesome, the subject matter is awesome the whole thing is just fecking WIN. It's about time someone did this, and I can only hope that Chameleon Circuit is only the first in a long line of Trock bands. If you're just going to get a song or two, I would suggest getting Type 40, An Awful Lot of Running, and Exterminate, Regenerate. An Awful Lot of Running: This song, at least to my ears, sounds like it is from the perspective of Rose Tyler, and is sung about the Doctor, and Who in general. From the first to the last line and the farmiliar sounding underlying tune (the guitar chords of the song are the opening theme of Doctor Who, a tune which will be farmiliar to any Who lover), this song is a fabulous opener. I love this song. 5/5 Gallifreyan History 101: Definitely an educater, like the title suggests. Even if you didn't know anything about where the Time Lords came from before you heard this song, you might know a little too much after. Definitely one of the most upbeat songs on the album. 3/5 Count the Shadows: Aside from being based on one of my favorite episodes of Who, Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead, there are some of the most amazing lyrics in this song. "An invisible, carniverous agressive armada/and they go by the name of the Vashta Nerada" is definitely my favorite line. This song is one of the most catchy on the album, and sort of sounds techno-y. 5/5 Shipwrecked: From the episode of the same name, in which the TARDIS breaks down. It's a little more down and sad than other songs, but it's still awesome. 4/5 Type 40: Probably my personal favorite, this song is about the TARDIS, from the perspective of everyone's favorite blue, time-traveling police box. 5/5 Blink: One of the catchiest songs on the album, Blink is about the episode of the same name, and the first verse is actually a quote from the show. You'll definitely have this one stuck in your head. 5/5 Exterminate, Regenerate: If you were to pick one song to represent Chameleon Circuit as it is currently, I think this would be the one. A glorious immortalization of the battles between the Doctor and the Daleks, and with the freaking catchiest chorus EVER. 5/5 K9's Lament: Another of the sadder songs, this song brings to light the sad fate of K9, the Doctor's one time companion, who was simply left behind and never heard of again (until the new series, season 2, but that's not the point). Makes you kind of want to hug him. Except that he's made of tin. *sigh* 4/5 Journey's End: A hilarious recap of the season 4 finale, which spoils everything, and nothing, all at once. 4/5 Friends of the Ood [Acoustic]: The album ends on an unplugged note, with another song about an episode, this time, it's Friends of the Ood. Of course. 3/5 All in all, Chameleon Circuit has done an amazing job. Do yourself a favour: BUY THIS ALBUM!
Knowledge of Dr. Who not needed!
I've never seen an episode of Dr. Who in my life, but I love each track anyway. Each song is great over and over again. Before long, you'll find yourself humming "An Awful Lot of Running", "Blink", "Count the Shadows", or "Exterminate, Regenerate" while walking down the street.
Trock is completely terrifying, yet so so exciting.
yes so if you are a fan of Doctor Who, or if you just like good music, this is a CD for you.
