Customer Reviews
Great Band, Great Album, I am a devoted fan...
But there is one thing about this album that is quite annoying. In the middle of "In Order" some dufus at the record company decided they needed to add an obnoxious beep instead of some profanity (done in good taste, of course) that is totally disconcerting. Because I actually purchased the hard-copy album, which includes instrumentals, I did some audio splicing to make the beep go away and replaced it with the instrumental. If you are wondering about the Album for its musical qualities though, its sooooo good I can't even put into words a great enough compliment.
The hot pink sun makes the hot pink sunlight.
As a seasoned fan of Halloween, Alaska, I must say that I am a bit disappointed with "Champagne Downtown" as a whole. After the long wait between albums I feel it did not deliver in ways I wished it would have. With that aside, let's look at some stand-out tracks. "Hot Pink" is, in my opinion, the best song on the album. It is almost as great an album opener as "You're It" was for the self-titled debut. The songs almost sound similar as well, but in a good way. Beautiful transitions throughout the song. "In Order" is excellent as well, an interesting new sound for the band. The bleeping out of the explitive annoys me, but other than that it's a great track. "The Hollywood Sign" is another beautiful song, as is "Knights of Columbus." Although none of the songs are BAD, by no means, the album as a whole is not as strong as their debut. Still, it's a good album to listen to all the way through. The lyrical content makes the album regardless of individual songs' strength. Halloween, Alaska writes well, that is undeniable.
I miss the Love Cars, but this more than makes up for it!
Chilled out chords, relaxing melodies, emotional sensibilities, all around good album.
