Album Review
On Chapter VII: Hope and Sorrow, Sevendust open their doors to such guests as Alter Bridge's Myles Kennedy and American Idol's Chris Daughtry, a move that stretches the album's sound past the usual limits of alternative metal. Daughtry may be a popular figure in the hard rock world, but he's also synonymous with the glitzy TV show that helped launch his career, and his presence here points to Sevendust's desire to tap into that same market. If 2007's Alpha prized riffs over melody, then Chapter VII is the reversal of that arrangement, with songs like "Sorrow" and "The Past" featuring the sort of tough-guy-ballad approach that often yields heavy rotation on modern rock radio. Daughtry lends his vocals to the latter song, although his moment in the spotlight is limited — perhaps because his voice outshines Sevendust's Lajon Witherspoon, or because the band doesn't want "The Past" to sound too much like a Daughtry track. "Hope," on the other hand, pitches itself closer to the Linkin Park camp with its melancholic piano intro and rainy day atmospherics, even if the chorus packs more throat-shredding power than anything Chester Bennington has mustered on a Linkin Park release. Pounding percussion, swaggering guitars, and downtrodden lyrics are still Sevendust's bread and butter — especially throughout the album's second half — and even "Hope" finds time to showcase some dazzling, fiery guitar heroics by the visiting Mark Tremonti. So while Sevendust's audience won't be thoroughly confused with this release, they'll occasionally be jolted by the changes that Chapter VII presents: pop idol cameos, heavy-handed semi-ballads, and some cautious steps outside of the alt-metal genre. [Chapter VII: Hope and Sorrow was also made available in a "clean" version with all profanity removed.]

YOU IDIOTS!!!
SHUT UP!!!! you guys complain about everything! and then u call yourselves 7dust fans! i should go to ur houses right now and slap the crap outta u!! Just because oh "Chris Daughtry" is in one of their songs, they're gonna go mainstream now?? how STUPID are u people!! shut up and listen to the album! maybe you'll like it, maybe u won't (which i doubt), but stop complaing about Chris Daughtry! I've seen like over 40 reviews talking about how having Chris Daughtry on one song is goin to make Sevendust mainstream! shut up! People are also talking about Clint's return, I hate to disappoint u but Clint is not included in this album, he came back when they finished making the album, end of story he's back now and Sonny's out! The album was awesome and has more emotion to it than others, thats why it's named Hope and Sorrow, its about overcoming sorrow and hoping for something good! I recommend the entire album seriously (it's also heavy). Best Songs: -Inside -Enough -Hope -Scapegoat -The Past -Prodigal Son -Sorrow -Contradiction
Most Polished Album to Date!
Sevendust is my favorite band, mainly because of the variety of their music. They are sometimes very hard, sometimes commercial and other times soft. They are the best rock band right now and put on a great show. But they haven't really reached the top of the hard rock world. Hopefully this album will help that. This is a very radio friendly album, but don't let that fool you. Tracks like "Inside" and "Contradiction" are furious and "Lifeless" is pretty dark. But they all do have their hooks. Guest star songs particularly shine like "The Past" with Daughtry and "Sorrow" with Alter Bridge frontman Miles Kennedy. "Sorrow" is by far my favorite on the album, it is an epic song with a great build-up, awesome chorus and a very emotional bridge. I can't stop listening to that one. Great addition to the Sevendust catalog and if you are a first time listener brought in by Daughtry or Alter Bridge, give the whole album a shot, you will probably like it and want to check out past ones. If so, check out Seasons and Animosity. Hope and Sorrow is an amazing album! If you only have $5, buy: Sorrow Inside Walk Away The Past Scapegoat
7D turns the corner
This album will bring alot of new blood to the Sevendust army. With radio tracks like Sorrow and The Past, once you get into it, your locked... It's all the music you'll ever need. Then comes the live show. One show and you'll never look back.
