iTunes Review
Nico's first solo album is an intriguing mix of poignant singer/songwriter compositions and the avant-garde leanings that reflect her involvement with The Velvet Underground. A then-unknown and very young Jackson Browne contributes three songs of stellar beauty ("Fairest of the Seasons," "These Days," and "Somewhere There's a Feather"), along with his understated guitarwork. Nico's compatriots in the Velvet Underground—Lou Reed, John Cale, and Sterling Morrison—join her for a variety of tunes, including the discordant "It Was a Pleasure Then" and the gentler, more introspective early Velvet Underground track "Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams," plus "Little Sister" and the poignantly autobiographical title track. Tom Wilson's production is artful and sublime, adding strings and flutes for a chamber-folk feel that's as singular in its approach as Nico's vocal phrasing. Bob Dylan's "I'll Keep It with Mine" is given a stern read, while Tim Hardin's "Eulogy to Lenny Bruce" couldn't be more stark and revealing. This 1967 album was at odds with the era's Summer of Love hippie vibe. It stands on its own as a unique masterwork.

Thank You, Nico
This is a great album! A classic, and for good reason. Something about this album, always makes me wish it was fall, and I that had just thrown on my favorite jeans, and a great wool sweater and hat, and live in my old college town and I am walking down the backroads over the bridge to the pub, right as its beginning to turn dusk, and breathing in that crisp clean air with my hands in my pockets. This album strikes such a visual chord for me, and is really a brilliant piece of work.

This album is my soul on a record! I went through some pretty hard times in the past few years, and I think without Chelsea Girl I would have died... maybe not literally, but emotionally. Nico, but especially through this album has led me to understand that life is about sadness and lonelyness as much as it is about happiness and wholeness; that all of these thing come together as a package, and that getting through the hard times is what makes the good times 100 times better. Because of this record, I think my soul is connected to Nico's soul. If u are looking for an a amazing voice, wonderful lyrics (even if half of the songs are covers), early alt. rock, and someone to feel sad with: NICO IS FOR YOU! Fun Fact: One of the reasons the Velvet Underground performed with Nico was because she sounded like a gay man to them, and they thought of it as a sort of political statement.
Worth a Gander
With probably one of the most versatile and invocative voices ever, Nico could record "Happy Birthday" and it would be an instant classic. With that said, this is all-around a great, strong album. Nico has such an amazing voice, and her emotion really comes through in all her songs. I first heard her on "The Royal Tennenbaums" Soundtrack (amazing soundtrack, by the way) and I was hooked. I'll admit, it took me a few listens to really appreciate this album, but it's those ones that take a while that end up being the best. I encourage anyone to give this album a chance - I know you'll love it. I can't say that I listen to this album a whole lot, but it's nice to know that there's always a little Nico there when you need it.
