Chop Chop

In this debut album S/T, Chop Chop does an amazing job of keeping the listener interested with a mix of low and higher tempo rhythms as a mosaic of different sounds done cohesively and right. Lead singer Catherine Cavenaugh reminds me of a more grown up and playful but twisted Kelly Dayton from the Sneakerpimps put into a straight jacket. Chop Chop mixes some synth-pop, rock and the indie flavors of acoustic guitar, rhythmic but delicious sighs and grunts to leave the listener at times wondering what sounds they’re listening to without deviating attention from the song in general. With songs like the melodic "Lines", "Lines part 2" and the dark warped sound of "Motherfuckerbeenpissingmeoff", Chop Chop leaves you at times wondering if you're falling in love with or should be running away from the singer; but brings the listener back with more melody, rhythm, and proof of know-how with songs like "Blackened toes", the dark industrial sounding "My Excuses, My Emily" and Cavenaugh's voice and general ambiance of "Every". Chop Chop most definitely has a certain feeling and sound, and by far holds its own ground.
