Nothing better than this
If I had to choose - this would be my number one of all the recordings I know of these pieces (and there are a few on my shelf, like Moravec, Francois, Pires, Rubinstein, Barenboim, Pollini). It's piano playing of the highest order. Flawless. Touching. Technically perfect. Deeply natural sounding music. Full of artistic control and freedom at the same time. Please don't let you fool by Sangoma63’s review; Arrau was one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century and the last thing you can say about him is that he ever had any technical problems (try his Brahms or Liszt and you will see). Apart from that, the breathing is indeed clearly perceptible (Considering this, it's hard to believe that the Sangoma63 has ever listened to this recording, otherwise (s)he would have noticed Arrau's breathing), but doesn’t disturb me at all. In many concerts you will hear the artist’s noises as well… Buy it. Rush. It’s a must-have.
Exquisite!
Chopin is my all time favorite classical artist to listen to. This album reflets some of his best pieces as well as adding some less familiar works. I am a ballet dancer and while listening to many CD's of classics I choose this one to dance to the most. Well done Claudio Arrau!
Chopin: The Complete Nocturnes and Impromptus
Beautifully performed but ruined by the persistent and frantic breathing of the pianist or sound guy. Unless you like the sound of a man gapsing for air, I would avoid this album.
