Pristine Chopin Brilliantly Executed by Ashkenazy

I do not consider myself to be a classical music expert, but rather an avid listener; nonetheless, I still consider this album to be the crown jewel of my classical music collection. Not only is it an excellent buy, two CDs of incredible music for the price of one, but it also contains a well-balanced menagerie of Chopin, a good introductory collection to those unfamiliar with the composer. Furthermore, Ashkenazy's brilliant techinque and favorable interpretation pairs extremely well with Chopin's musical genius. What I very much enjoy about Ashkenazy's performance is his clean, powerful, and as the pianist himself said, "true" interpretation that is found in each work. His playing contains a superb balance of strong emotion, technique, and style. The result is a breath-taking performance. There are, of course, some types of pieces that the pianist executes better than others, some being slightly too rigid in the opinion of some, but overall, Ashkenazy dominates. This album truly exhibits the genius of Chopin in a tasteful collection of works that is satisfactory no matter what musical forms one prefers. Chopin's brilliance and Ashkenazy's supreme interpretation, coupled with an excellent series of recordings for a bargain price equals sure perfection.

Excellence

Ashkenazy is the master of Chopin in our time! Brilliantly and creatively executed, this is a must for the Chopin lover. You have not truly felt Chopin until you've heard Ashkenazy interpret.
