emotive and evocative
Tharaud is a gifted pianist; his recording of Chopin's preludes is inspired.
Tharaud treats the preludes like the small gems they are meant to be
Many artists (even some of the masters) treat the Chopin preludes as exercises in a book, playing them too fast and not investing any emotion in them, as if they are beneath the talents of a serious musician. Not so with Tharaud. He treats each prelude as the gem that it is. Tharaud is that rare artist who takes the time to figure out the message of each piece, and plays each as though he had written it himself. He has a delightfully light touch--light, but not too light--that brings out the beauty of each one. Be sure not to miss his recording of the Valses, which are equally well done.
