iTunes Review

There’s no overestimating the effect Dave Lombardo’s return to the drummer’s chair had on Christ Illusion. After a 15-year hiatus Lombardo’s razor-sharp, militaristic rhythms reinvigorated Slayer and brought them back, at least spiritually, to their late-'80s heyday. Mostly abandoning the trendy groove metal with which they had flirted, the band utilizes Lombardo’s energy to build the forward-thrusting power riffs of “Flesh Storm,” “Catalyst” and “Skeleton Christ,” arguably the best three-song opening of any recent metal album. Even when the band flirts with more modern styles on the groaning “Catatonic” and the spastic “Eyes of the Insane,” they deliver with such immense punching power that the songs feel timeless. And twenty years after the landmark Reign In Blood, Slayer are still pushing the boundaries of lyrical content. “Jihad” imagines the “War on Terror” from the perspective of a Muslim terrorist. The song is intended to be disturbing, but more importantly, it intends to shock Americans out of the complacency and jingoism of the post-9/11 era.

Why can't I just buy "Final Six"???

Don't get me wrong, this album is very awesome and some of slayers best. There is not a bad song on this album (all would be rated 4/5 or 5/5 to me), but why can't I just buy final six if I already own the rest fo the album from the regular edition???

THIS IS THE SPECIAL EDITION

This is actually the special limited edition of Christ Illusion (don't know why iTunes didn't write that). If you get it on CD it also comes with an alternate version of Black Serenade and a bonus DVD. Anyway aside from that this is a damn good album. Surely not Slayer's best but still a very fast and brutal album. If you buy the album you should definetly get the music video for Eyes of the Insane which was what won Slayer the 49th grammy award for best metal performance. SLAYER STILL REIGNS SUPREME!

Damn Good

This is a damn good album. I would suggest this album to any Slayer or Speed Metal fan. The best songs on it would have to be "Cult", "Jihad", "Black Serenade" and "Eyes of the Insane".

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

Slayer were one of the most distinctive, influential, and extreme thrash metal bands of the 1980s. Their graphic lyrics deal with everything from death and dismemberment to war and the horrors of hell. Their full-throttle velocity, wildly chaotic guitar solos, and powerful musical chops paint an effectively chilling sonic background for their obsessive chronicling of the dark side; this correspondence has helped Slayer's music hold up arguably better than the remaining Big Three '80s thrash outfits...
