Excellent album. Would've been great to see Ave Maria on it though.
Mike Dalton - The best kept secret in music today!
Mike Dalton can craft a great song with the best of them. His ability to emote not just through his words and voice which are stellar, but with his musicianship is a joy to listen to in a music world filled with pre-fab pop, synth and dance tracks compressed to death for maximum impact for downloads and radio airplay. You won't get that here. Mike has too much respect for his fans and for music to take the shortcuts so many others do. His attention to detail in his arrangements and production are remarkable and it shows on all of his recordings. What's more is he makes it seem so easy. When you hear a Mike Dalton song you can't imagine it being played, sung or arranged any other way, much like a Beatles song or tunes from Billy Joel or Elton John. He's done all the hard work for you. All you have to do is listen.
People ask, "Where's the integrity in music today?" I say it's right here, in the music of Mike Dalton.
"Oh Holy Night", "Little Drummer Boy" He covers these standards with a fresh take that doesn't get in the way of the familiarity of the song so you can sing along, yet he found a way to slip into the song with his own style which gives you a new texture in which to hear the song for the first time, again.
"Christmas Eve", "Christmas (If I Can't Have You)" These two specifically Christmas tracks are like-able from the start. Christmas Eve is a fun song about finding love at this already festive time of year. Christmas (If I Can't Have You), takes a decidedly different turn as it speaks to losing love and how the holiday just won't be the same anymore without the one you love.
