Excellent Musicalization of a Holiday Classic
This is a very well-done version of the classic Christmas story "A Christmas Carol". This is the TV movie soundtrack recording of the Alan Menken/Lynn Ahrens musical that was staged seasonally at Madison Square Garden for over a decade. Even if you already own the original cast recording of the MSG production, this version is worth having. The production values on this CD are top-notch, better than the older version. In addition, the composers have made several adjustments to the score and lyrics since its premiere (and the original soundtrack), with the result of more polished songs. Highlights on this CD are Kelsey Grammer in "Nothing to Do With Me", the melodic "God Bless Us Everyone", and possibly the most beautiful, if not slightly sad song I've ever heard, "A Place Called Home", sung beautifully by Jennifer Love Hewitt and Kelsey Grammer. Also, don't miss Jesse L. Martin-- he sounds much different in "Abundance and Charity" than he does in "Rent". The songs range from light, "Christmas-y" carols to darker songs that suit the mood of later parts of the story. Kelsey Grammer has a very nice baritone (when not speak-singing, as his part is supposed to). Overall, buy this soundtrack if you're looking for a creative and likable retelling of "A Christmas Carol". If you only buy one song, buy "A Place Called Home", it's a GREAT song, and I recommend it above anything else on this recording.

A Christmas Classic Made Better! I love the music! Alan Menken (composer for many Disney classics) brought this back to life! AMAZING! This is my favorite version of this story! WELL WORTH YOUR MONEY! This is one of the best Christmas albums you'll ever find!
