Album Review

Boyz II Men followed their hugely successful debut, Cooleyhighharmony, with Christmas Interpretations, which is a pretty intelligent choice, given that Christmas albums by established artists tend to sell year after year, while pop albums tend to sell mostly at the time of their popularity. So this album of all new Christmas material (written by the Boyz themselves) certainly helped the Boyz flesh out their catalog. There aren't any interpretations of Christmas classics to be found on this record, save for their a cappella rendition of "Silent Night." This album is pure, lushly produced quiet storm and, because of the lack of traditional favorites, could be played at any time of year. This set differs from typical Boyz II Men albums in that it's very subdued, and vocal histrionics are kept at a minimum. This set also differs from traditional Christmas albums in that the songs generally deal with more melancholy subject matter, such as depression and suffering ("Why Christmas") and loneliness and poverty ("Cold December Nights"). It's also balanced with songs about the joys of giving (the elegant "Share Love," "Do They Know") and, of course, love ("You're Not Alone," "Who Would Have Thought"). This set also features "Let It Snow," a Top 40 duet with maestro Brian McKnight, who co-produced nearly every song on this album (it should have been titled Boyz II Men featuring Brian McKnight). This set is a cozy, velvety, and hip quiet storm Christmas album with touches of jazz, nostalgia, and melancholy but, at times, one yearns to hear the Boyz' lush harmonies wrapped around traditional favorites. Nonetheless, a nice chapter in the saga that is Boyz II Men. ~ Jose F. Promis, Rovi

A Classic... Talent like this doesn't exist anymore....

A message to the Rap Master...who gave that stupid review... Read this message, so you know how STUPID you truly are. First of all, it's not like Boyz II Men just came out on the scene. This ablum came out on 1993. They've been doing their thing for years, probably before you were born, because if you knew anything about them, you never would have made that comment. Secondly, do you have any idea how idiotic you sound saying they should adopt a more hip hop style like Kayne West? News flash, dumb a**!!!! This is a CHRISTMAS album!!!! Boyz II Men is an R&B/Soul group not a hip-hop group. If you're gonna insult one of the greatest male groups of all time, at least know what you're talking about!!! Sh*t, you probably wouldn't know real hip hop if it bit you two times in the a** anyway!

One of the best!!!

I've had this album since it came out and I listen to it every christmas and during the year. Great songs and perfect B2M melodies. If you are a boys II men fan you will love it...if you are not a fan you will become one. This album is soooo romantic....definately one you will want to listen to while snuggling with your boo this christmas. (smile)

My Favorite!!!

This is definately my favorite Christmas album that i have ever come across. The melody is so soothing and it makes the perfect holiday gift! Boyz II Men fans will love this album! Merry Christmas!!

Biography

Formed: 1988 in Philadelphia, PA

Genre: R&B/Soul

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

According to no less an authority than the RIAA, Boyz II Men are the most commercially successful R&B group of all time. They've sold ludicrous numbers of records and been involved in three of the longest-running number one pop singles in history, and they've done it as a unit of equals. In fact, their four-part harmonies blend so smoothly that most of the general public would be hard-pressed to name any of the group's individual members. And that's no reflection on their skill as singers; Boyz...
