Swingle All The Way!

The french Swingle Singers did a great deal of touring and recording through the 60's and 70's. Their founder and genius arranger, Ward Swingle, crafted this a capella group which has become one of the most important jazz vocal groups in history. Their astonishing arrangements show a wide range of versatility, covering music from Renaissance through the 20th century, ranging from classical, folk, pop and jazz. They are well known for tackling the most intricate contrapuntal harmonies, often incorporating their now famous "da-ba-da-ba" swing rhythms to great effect, thus giving their music an irresistible effervescence that’s sure to lighten any mood. Back in the early 80’s I attended one of their concerts and was able to ask a few questions of them. When asked, how they sing with such incredible speed and accuracy, they responded - "we practice veerrrry sssslllooowwwly". Hope you enjoy them as much as I have.

40 years later...

This is still my favorite Christmas LP. I don't own any other Swingle Singers release, but this is a classic.

Vocalese Delight

Non-sensical singing here, the Swingle's sing just the melody accapella and four block with lots of scat and da da's. Now, for those of us with impatient ears after a few songs may get irritated and want relief from the vocalese with lyric and this cd offers no such relief so if that is the case this cd is better in small doses, for the rest of us we'll try to sing along.
