Chupacabras

Greatest rock composition since Echoes

     

Chupacabras is an album worthy of praise all its own. The songs offer a scope of sounds and styles that, while pulled from different sessions, have come together here and work wonderfully together. Of particular note are the first three, a trilogy of songs that maintain a certain otherworldy creepiness to them. Beyond the first trio of tracks lie a spectacular variety of songs, notably Sunburnt and Titan. The real gem here is the title track, Chupacabras. The iTunes entry won't mention it, but this 20 minute track is actually broken into 5 movements (I believe)that range from art-rock to native american woodwind. It's got a supernatural subject matter, but it never gets bogged down in it, using effects and noises sparingly. It's this century's Echoes, and it is infinately replayable, despite its intimidating length.
