Album Review
Rather than think of the title Church on the Moon as silly, think of it as bold and fun, two qualities that help define Deitrick Haddon. The title to the contemporary gospel singer’s fifth effort is tied to the album’s key track, "Gravity," which finds Haddon observing the beauty of Earth from the Moon. It also refers to the futuristic side of the album, which is well aware of the slick club styles of Taio Cruz and the Black Eyed Peas. The singer crafts his own gospel futurism out of these influences, hyping up the word of the Lord with polished synth lines, rock-solid hooks, and that playful way Haddon delivers the gospel, where lines like “I ain’t talking about the King of Pop/I’m talkin’ about the Kings of Kings!” feel perfectly natural. Still, as forward-thinking as many tracks are, familiar R&B cuts like the aforementioned “Gravity” anchor the ambitious effort, and if you think Haddon has no sense of history, check the doo wop-fueled “Touch Me” or the powerful power ballad “Mighty God.”
Customer Reviews
Please Read. Great Music.
when people complain about "the gospel sounding the the world"---i disagree. if gospel sounded like the world, then there WOULD BE NO GOSPEL. sure the beats sound "worldly" but what defines "worldly"? the beats, or the LYRICS????!!! gosh. do you know why the "worldly" beats are attractive and popular? ... because they obviously sound good and appeal to this generation of society. its sad--but whenever a Christian rapper has "worldly" beats, people say its a bad thing--so the song is automatically bad? but i thought the song was talking about Jesus? its still bad huh? sometimes artists need that "worldly" sound to GET THEIR MUSIC OUT TO NON-BELIEVERS. woah, isnt that against the rules? NO. if the gospel doesnt sound attractive no ones gunna follow it! is this rocket science? NO. if there wasnt catchy music-gospel music-then who on EARTH, WOULD WANT TO FOLLOW? i personally do not care for slow, repetitive Christian music. it bores me to sleep. not that i dislike it--its just boring. man. i can tell the difference between worldly music and gospel music, and its BY THE LYRICS. Keep this up Deitrick. and i hate asking for thumbs up, but i know im not alone on this.
To His Glory
I love how everybody is supset about how Gospel Music sounds nowdays. But if you remember, even Judas had to kiss Jesus in order for them to even know which one they were supposed to take. I say all that to say that Even God made Himself to look like us in the form of Jesus; So how much more effective is Gospel music, that "Sounds" like the "Other Stuff", going to Impact the WORLD!
OMG!
Deitrick did it again! God used Deitick to get THE MOST glory out of Him on this one! And I don't care what none of y'all say, I'd rather my 14 y/o listen to this than Drake, Lil Wayne and all of those people talking about worldly stuff over a hot beat. Deitrick is singing about God over hot beats! Ya dig! Deitrick! Do it! And don't feel bad about it!
