Customer Reviews
Quite Good!
This album is deceptive...in a good way. You could call it 'subversive'. Mainly ambient, and often without steady drums and such, you might expect it to be like a lot of 'wallpaper' albums that simply put you to sleep. In contrast, 'Cinematic' creeps up on you when you least expect it. Kubilay Uner obviously has a heart that guides his craft, because there is real, engaging harmony sharing space with the sometimes odd, always interesting, sonic textures he cooks up. A really good chill-out album, but I was surprised to find myself actively LISTENING often, too.
Cine-fantas-tic
Go ahead. Challenge your ears. Try something different. I dare you! You'll be glad you took the dare. This is a unique CD: a welcome, sound-expanding addition to anyone's music collection.
you want excellent alternative listening? you just found it
Cinematic is one of the most satisfying listens of 2006. Besides the fact that I'm fairly anti-category, even if I was I couldn't put this recording in any category besides "excellent music." The music is original in it's content and it's use of an eclectic group of instruments. It's an ambient jem: put it on in your car and enjoy the ride, in the background at a social gathering, or slip on some headphones and you'll have 3 different listening experiences. The golden success of Mr. Uner is in that he has composed music that adapts to what is around it. He should recieve the grail for that alone, but he has also offered us some truly original, unpretentious, and accessable music that is a great listen. Interestingly, he has hel a contest for film makers to make short movies to his existing score and recieved tremendous response. Keep an eye (or an ear) on this guy!
