Album Review

Combining well-crafted originals with well-considered covers, Circle of Friends' surprise is that the sound of John McVey here might be compared to the Philly soul sound of artists such as Daryl Hall (especially on tunes such as "Song of the Night" and "One Way Train"). However, as in his impressive and engaging reworkings of "I Want to Hold Your Hand" and "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For," McVey is also able to bring original style to his musical choices.

Friends

We have been listening to John since the beginning in New Hope PA. I love this album. John used to laugh at me in John and Peters because every time he played "Good by is Still Goodbye" I would cry. It still touches my heartstrings, masterful poetry set to music. "One Way Train" is a life theme for me, we are all stow aways. For performers of all types who have struggled to deliver their art "Mistress" will hit home. This LP is on my ipod under happy music, because that is how it always makes me feel. Listen to John McVey and you will be hooked.
