Album Review
After the much publicized addition of bassist Robin Spurs to the Choir's lineup and her highly unpublicized departure, the Choir released this recording, their strongest effort and the last release of their so-called "atmospheric" period. They are at their most experimental here, with rich textures and lots of noise. "If I Had a Yard" features saxophonist Dan Michaels playing through a wah-wah pedal manipulated by Steve Hindalong as part of his drum kit. The title track is a brooding number with dense textures and a haunting one-minute instrumental interlude full of feedback and spacy sax lines. "About Love" examines the pain and awareness that comes with relationships and intimacy. Notable is the return of Mike Sauerbrey on "Restore My Soul" from the original lineup on Voices in Shadows. The only thing wrong with this recording is that there is simply not enough of it. Clocking in at under 40 minutes, the music leaves the listener hungry for more. Lyrics are stronger than ever, often taking analytical or introspective examinations of ordinary subjects; a perfect libretto for this dark soundtrack. ~ Mark W. B. Allender, Rovi

Long lost dream pop treasure
If you are a fan of dream pop bands like Cocteau Twins, Lush, early Ocean Blue, and do not yet own this...you are missing out. With the exception of maybe "Laugh Loop" and "If I Had a Yard," everything here is essential listening.
A one of a kind album worth listening to.
Once in a great while an album will come around that you will listen to for years without it getting old. This is one of those albums. When I first heard this album in the early 90's, I described it to myself as alternative Christian rock as it was nothing like what was being published at that time. The music is actually music and the lyrics are more than bubble gum for the brain. There appeared to be great time and effort put into this collection of songs which range from thought provoking (Restore My Soul) to the not-so-typical love song. (Tear for Tear / About Love.) You won't hear long, drawn out guitar or drum solos but you will hear solid rock music with intelligent lyrics and without a lot of digitally produced filler. Circle Slide was the first album from The Choir in my collection and it certainly was not my last.
EPIC
A grand an epic tone is set with the surreal Circle Slide. Cryptic imagery and melancholy leaves one reflecting again and again. I play in coffee shops sometimes and I always find myself opening with "Tear for Tear / About Love". Songs about thermostats and other specifics gave me a sense of authenticity, that Steve wasn't trying to sell me on an idea . Rather, I felt as if I was there for Emily's birth, and for the fights that erupted in the kitchen.
