One of the Most Impressive Songwriters
One of the best young female songwriters out there. Phenomenal production as always.
Definitely worth it
After having listened to Manda's first album upon a friend's recommendation I was surprised this lady wasn't getting more attention. The songwriting is impressive, and the tunes are catchy but with a depth to them that seems to be missing from a lot of what you hear on the radio these days. That album didn't leave my car stereo for weeks. She reminds me of a female Tom Petty (even more so on this EP as it sounds like she finally got a sweet band to back her up). Her cover of State Trooper is worth the listen, all 7 minutes of it. The remix of One True Love is a fun track, it was definitely a highlight of her first album.
Unsung hero in Los Angeles
I found City of Clowns to be a gutsy approach to the female rock genre and anyone that is familiar with Manda's music knows she is an artist without compromise. Her deep strong voice is unique in a way that you will either love or hate, it's original gritty and totally unlike the processed girly music of today's top pop. There's a cover of Bruce Springsteen's "State Trooper" that's to die for on this...a long haunting jam that takes you barreling down a dark erie highway; great for a late night listening. The Only One reminds me of an appalachian mountain song with a classic rock arrangement and City of Clowns is one of those songs that sounds like a radio hit on first listen that comes in with this neat electric guitar intro and a great beat. Although I've seen her music growing in popularity, I would still consider her one of Los Angeles' unsung indie music heros.
