Album Review

Winter in July can be a strange combination. Released in May of 2001, but seeing hype and sales in June and July, Chris Clark's Clarence Park is a frostingly cold glimpse at what winter feels like — even if one's listening to it during the dog days of relentless sun. Big reverberated beats transform into a crisp sound experiment, synth washes cut and skate alongside and in between breakbeat scientology, and sound sculpture paints imagery of glacier-like masses floating along in the sea minding their own business. Albeit not sounding especially original, and having an immense amount of pressure to do so, Clark turns in a fine debut of sensitive and cerebrally brash material that sits comfortably alongside some of the better records of 2001.

Amazing

The complexity and sheer brilliance of this album are evident in every track. From the jubilant Lord of the Dance to the ghostly Shrewland, Clark takes listeners on a very peculiar trip. Most of the songs are only 2-3 minutes in length, with a large number of interludes and "mini-songs." In the world of electronic music you can have an idea stretched over 8 minutes or you can do it in 2, and Clark seems to have mastered the latter. Highly recommended for anyone interested in experimental electronica.

love this CD

great music, his best album.

Best Clark album ever

This album was just amazing, each song was a smooth trip, like the first song Pleen 1930's, beautiful song, simply beautiful, my favorite song, becoming one of my top 25 most listened too. And I love the album artwork to, very beautiful, but a little different, thing was so different was that little boys red eyes at the bottom left corner, but its clark you know, it kinda reminds me of when I snows like that in my backyard and the sky is grey and calming, nice and quiet, really makes me get a really good feeling inside. Next time when it snows, im bringing my ipod out and listening to Pleen 1930's. Its also one thing is that the songs maybe a little short, but trust me the sound on each one is great, when I first saw this album I really didn't think much but when I one day bought this album, it was, oh my gosh just awesome, still can not stop listening to it. I really recomend for someone to buy it cause it has really brightened my life up, and it should to yours. Boy did I write a lot of stuff. But really take my word for it, dont just pass it by. Buy it, you wont be sorry. XP
