iTunes Review
Otis Taylor savors the mysteries of the blues (there is no Volumes One or Two in this “series”). While his music features some tough ensemble playing the kind of guitar lines that showcase the band’s virtuosity, it’s only one element that makes Taylor’s records such essential listens. “Little Willie” is a great band workout and a stunning tale of a young boy killed on a playground, but it’s the slow doomed folk melody of “Lee and Arnez” that creates the deepest emotive connection to the heart. Taylor’s looked at life from all sides and there’s a fatalistic stomp to his best material where there’s also no shortage of empathy. “It’s Done Happened Again” shadows the ghosts of old rockabilly in its blues. “Past Times” aches with a memory that no amount of booze can blunt. “She’s Ice in the Desert” adds a glimpse at glee. “Hands On Your Stomach” kicks up the tempo. “Harry, Turn the Music Up” throws things into the old-style gin mills. “Ain’t No Cowgirl” warns against a woman that any experienced man should know better than to chase, but can’t help himself. The blues tradition remains very much alive in the hands of a genuine practitioner.

Clovis People, Vol. 3
I was turned on to Otis Taylors music about a yr. ago. I have all his CD's now and I feel this could be his best. He is mostly known for the CD White African or the song Ten Million Slaves. Now with his new CD Clovis People, Vol 3 named after the finding of one of the oldest human remains in North America near Denver CO. This CD brings a stronger sound with the electric gutar solos that give his Blues Trance a tougher edge. I like that it keeps my heart pounding and my foot tapping in time. Like always his singing style makes you think but you feel what he is trying to say. "I feel his words" it's poetry. "She's Ice in the Desert" What a verse. What a great song. "Coffee Women" sweet and sour. Poetry with a trance sound. I would love to see him play with his band. I love all his CD's but I put this one with White African #1 five stars and the rest four stars. I put Otis Taylor on my i tunes with my computer hit shuffle and do all my house chores or cook what ever it keeps me groving.
Training & OD Dude
The blues have never been better. Otis is the man, musically and lyrically.
Damn skippy
Seriously fine piece of work. Blues that's not necessarily blues... depends on how narrow one's definition is. Flat out some of the most thought provoking music I've ever had the pleasure to hear. Otis Taylor has a groove that's deep and wide, diving into the depths of pain and soaring high on being alive. There's a raw honesty that's anything but plain, every note, every sound sort of begs a deeper question, answering in parables and proverbs, sublime as the indigo night. Truly a wonderful ride, regardless of one's take on the blues. This is blues of the visceral, primal kind. Damn skippy indeed.
