iTunes Review

John Bonham’s 1980 death having called a halt to Led Zeppelin’s activities, the remaining band members made still one more offering. Coda arrived two years after the drummer’s departure, and brought together outtakes and live cuts from throughout Zeppelin’s tenure. The focus is on the massive thump the group could command at will; a compact version of Ben E. King’s “We’re Gonna Groove” might have been another outfit’s hit single, while the alternate “I Can’t Quit You Babe” finds Jimmy Page shooting out a stream of wild-eyed and -hearted ideas during his solo. The quartet careens through the punk-inspired “Wearing and Tearing” and the monster blues-rocking of “Walter’s Walk.” But there’s also an early stab at their folkie mode in “Poor Tom,” and “Bonzo’s Montreux,” a kaleidoscopic Bonham showcase lovingly remixed by Page.

Some tracks missing?

iTunes, where the hell is the bonus tracks? The tracks missing are the best of the whole album! It's a priority to add them as soon as possible!

Awesome, but...

The four other tracks that were added on in I think '93 aren't here, like Hey Hey What Can I Do, which was on the B-Side of the Immigrant Song Single. But, Wearing and Tearing is one of my favorite Zep songs, just because it's so different than their other stuff. In all, it's probably the worst Zep album, only because it doesn't keep the same feel throughout the thing, but still, it's worth 5 stars. Actually, just skip this album, and buy the compilation, and listen to all the songs for yourself.

Coda

I dont know why people say this is their worst album. This album is pretty amazing. We're Gonna Groove is amazing. Walter's Walk is something i never heard. Wearing and Tearing is something that you can move your head to. Im not saying that this is their all time best album, but it shouldnt be disrespected.

Led Zeppelin was the definitive heavy metal band. It wasn't just their crushingly loud interpretation of the blues — it was how they incorporated mythology, mysticism, and a variety of other genres (most notably world music and British folk) — into their sound. Led Zeppelin had mystique. They rarely gave interviews, since the music press detested the band. Consequently, the only connection the audience had with the band was through the records and the concerts. More than any other band,...
