Album Review

Cold's eponymous debut is a set of ugly, harsh post-alternative metal in the vein of Korn. The group concentrates on brutal, bleak riffing, instead of tight songwriting — it's an album about texture, where the hard-hitting, post-thrash rhythms and the group's vaguely nihlistic undertone combine to form a scary, provocative succession of sound. Cold's songwriting isn't always great and they're too concerned with adolscent angst and horror ("Everyone Dies," "Insane," "Serial Killer," etc.), but the band's sound is fully formed, resutling in a strong debut.

Can't Kill Monsters

First off, let me start this by saying that if you like Cold for songs like Stupid Girl, then this album isn't for you. This is by no means the Cold that you're used to listening to. I wouldn't say that this album has a "rip your head off" feel to it, but this is still Cold at their rawest, hardest form. From Go Away and Give to Goodbye Cruel World, a look into the roots of Cold is rather interesting. Scooter's vocals are slightly weak at some points, but the screams in Go Away still amaze me to this day and give me that "Man, I wish I could do that" impression. And then there's songs like Ugly, Strip Her Down, and Insane that have more of a psychidelic feel to them. Then the guitar play in The Switch is just simply amazing. Is this their best album? No. But it's still worth a look to see how far the band has come and it will blow your mind, if you can handle it. Hardcore fans need only apply.

Cold and Brutal

I love this Album, Its personally my Favorite Cold album. If you like real music buy this album

BUY IT!

This is one of Cold's best albums and its a shame they've been going softer ever since. I like this album over Year of the Spider and A Different Kind of Pain, but 13 Ways to Bleed Onstage is good too.

Jacksonville, Florida-based alternative metal outfit Cold started out by sharing the aesthetic of another Florida band, Limp Bizkit. The Bizkit actually discovered Cold playing in the Jacksonville area and helped them sign to the A&M subsidiary Flip. Cold's eponymous debut album was released in the summer of 1998, and through constant touring, the combo earned a devoted...
