Solid EP

This is a great EP if you want to dive deeper into Radiohead. If nothing else, be sure to get I Am A Wicked Child and Skttrbrain. A different side of Radiohead (as if they weren't multifaceted enough already) and a great re-imagining of one of their songs respectively.

necessary foray for radiohead fans

I will be the first to admit, that despite the genius of radiohead, their bsides are a bit of a mixed bag. The My Iron Lung E.P. is bad, the ok computer era stuff is a C, and I have yet been able to stomach the Pablo Honey stuff. On the other hand, the amnesiac era songs are all great, and the hail to the thief era tracks are worth a listen. This collection, pulling the best tracks from the hail to the thief singles and throwing a couple new things in for good measure, is a nice launching point for the entity that is non album tracks. Though this is not of the quality of their albums, we see radiohead cutting loose and taking some surprising risks. From the bluesy "Wicked Child" and glitchy "Citizen Insane" to the awesome Scatterbrain remix, there is a lot to love here, and unlike their other bside comps, has a healthy amount of replay value. The definite standouts are "Paperbag Writer" and "Fog Again". Well worth a listen!

But the band internalized that epic sweep, turning it inside out to tell tortured, twisted tales of angst and alienation. Vocalist Thom Yorke's pained lyrics were brought to life by the group's three-guitar attack, which relied on texture — borrowing as much from My Bloody Valentine and Pink Floyd as R.E.M. and Pixies — instead of virtuosity....
