Boston Ska outfit Westbound Train are named after reggae’s most ubiquitous rhythms — the epic, Al Green-quoting Dennis Brown anthem of the same name — but they nonetheless began life as a somewhat typical third-wave ska outfit, performing energetic, but barely coherent riffs on classic Jamaican music overlaid with a uniquely punk brand of suburban disaffection. Westbound Train has matured considerably since its earliest releases and have, over time, evolved into an ensemble of crack instrumentalists with a surprisingly original take on Jamaican music. On Come and Get It Westbound Train sounds less like punks than a reggae-saturated analogue to accomplished soul & funk revisionists the El Michel’s Affair, ably charting out the musical spaces that connect reggae with American musical forms like bebop and funk.

two tone revival
ok so this new album is awesome if you liked anything else they've done you'll love this its the most diverse and yet mature album they've done yet. looking at this compared with they're other albums it just astounds me how it could get any better and yet they did it. Nice job the three years in the making was worth it!
Scoop this up!
I first heard Westbound Train on "Give Em' The Boot IV" circa autumn of 2004 and have been a fan ever since. This release continues and builds upon the well-thought out lyrics, dance numbers, motown sound, ska picks, and superb musicianship of their past efforts. I had the privilege of seeing Westbound Train live and meeting them in the crowded bar area in the upstairs of the Trocodero Theater in Chinatown, Philadelphia circa 2006. If all works out well, I'll be seeing them at World Cafe Live next week too. With this release, I fell in love with "Check Your Time" the first time I've heard it. Great album, great price, great people. Definitely pick this up for this low, low price. Thanks for reading my first review. -Bobby Clark
Great band....good time!
Caught these guys opening for Rancid in NYC last summer. They owned the crowd that night! Finally....we get to hear those "new" songs they were playing. They worked hard that night!! This is the 'chill' album of the summer!
